How to Secure a Crypto Exchange Account

Set up email, passwords, two-factor authentication, withdrawal allowlists, anti-phishing codes and recovery in the right order.

Protect the Login Path

Use a dedicated email and unique password for the exchange. Enable authenticator-based 2FA and store recovery codes offline. Protect the email account with 2FA too, because email takeover can enable password resets.

Restrict Withdrawals

Enable withdrawal allowlists, device management and cooling periods for new addresses. Use an anti-phishing code when available. Remove unused API keys and disable withdrawal, futures or sub-account permissions you do not need.

Prepare an Incident Plan

Record the official support route, account-freeze steps, trusted devices and the last security review date. If you see an unknown login, API key or withdrawal, freeze access and change credentials first, then contact support through the official site—not through unsolicited DMs.
