Funding Rate Monitor

Live funding rates for major pairs + annualized APR

What is the Funding Rate Monitor?

The Funding Rates monitor shows live perpetual funding and annualized levels for major coins. Positive funding means longs pay shorts (crowded longs); negative the reverse — the most direct thermometer of leveraged sentiment.

How do I use the Funding Rate Monitor?

Extremes breed reversals: annualized funding above 50% signals dangerously crowded longs prone to cascade liquidations, while deeply negative funding clusters near panic bottoms. Persistent positive funding is also the entry condition for the carry trade (see the Arbitrage Calculator).

What should I watch out for?

Single prints are noisy — average several 8-hour periods. Settlement mechanics differ across exchanges, so mind the basis when comparing venues.

How the Funding Rate Monitor works

Shows the latest perpetual futures funding rate and an annualized figure for BTC, ETH, SOL, BNB, XRP and DOGE, from Binance USDT-margined perpetuals with OKX as a fallback. Use it to gauge leveraged positioning and the cost of holding a position.

What you enter

  • None; data refreshes from a cache of about 5 minutes.

What it shows

  • Per coin: mark price, funding rate per period (%) with its settlement interval, and annualized APR (%)
  • Green when positive (longs pay shorts), red when negative (shorts pay longs)

How to use it

  1. Open the page and wait for the table to load.
  2. Find the coin in the Coin column.
  3. Read the per-period rate, its sign and the interval shown next to it (for example 8h).
  4. Check the APR column to compare with other yields or carry trades.
  5. Look again after several funding periods to see whether the rate persists.

Formula

APR = funding rate (%) × (24 ÷ hours per period) × 365; a contract that settles every 8 hours works out to × 3 × 365.

Worked example

BTC shows +0.0100% per period on an 8h interval. APR = 0.01 × 3 × 365 = 10.95%. A 10,000 USD long would pay about 10,000 × 0.0001 = 1.00 USD per funding period at that rate.

How to read the result

  • Positive funding means longs pay shorts; negative means shorts pay longs.
  • High, persistent positive funding points to crowded leveraged longs.
  • Deeply negative funding points to heavy short positioning.

Limits and cautions

  • A single print is noisy; average several periods before drawing conclusions.
  • APR uses each contract's actual settlement interval (shown next to the rate, such as 8h or 4h); a shorter interval gives a higher APR for the same rate.
  • Rates differ across exchanges; this table shows only Binance, or OKX as fallback.

Common questions

What does a positive funding rate mean?

Longs pay shorts at each funding settlement. It usually means the perpetual trades above the index, reflecting more demand for leveraged longs.

How is funding APR calculated?

The page multiplies the per-period rate by the number of settlements per day and by 365. On 8-hour periods, 0.01% gives 10.95% APR; on 4-hour periods, 21.9%. It assumes the rate stays constant.

How often is funding paid?

Most major perpetuals settle every 8 hours, but exchanges can use shorter intervals on some contracts; this page reads the actual interval and shows it next to the rate.
