Direct answer: on OKX, raising your maker share usually saves more than chasing a higher rebate rate, and a rebate counts only after your account confirms it.

OKX base fee structure

Regular OKX users pay 0.08% maker and 0.10% taker on spot, and 0.02% maker / 0.05% taker on perpetuals; the official fee page is authoritative. Rates also vary by VIP tier, region, product and pair. The gap between maker and taker is the easiest lever for active traders.

A worked example by order type

Suppose you trade 100,000 USDT of spot in a month:

All taker: 100,000 × 0.10% = 100 USDT.
60% maker, 40% taker: 60,000 × 0.08% + 40,000 × 0.10% = 48 + 40 = 88 USDT.

Referral rewards and fee rebates are separate

OKX’s referral program may require new users to complete verification and set tasks; reward amounts, form and claim windows follow the current campaign in your account. Affiliate fee sharing is a separate program, and the referrer’s commission is not your own fee saving. “Code entered”, “verification done”, “one-off reward claimed” and “ongoing fee rebate” are four different outcomes.

The relationship is set when the account is created

OKX’s referral FAQ says the relationship normally must be created with the account and cannot be added or changed later. A common pitfall: if you installed the app through an ad or another referral channel, the account may already be pre-bound.
