Calculate the downside and true costs before deciding to trade

A pre-trade checklist for sizing, invalidation, fees, slippage, funding, market context and rule stability.

Five questions before a trade

This checklist turns the most-skipped pre-trade checks into five questions: how big is the position, is the risk-reward reasonable, what do fees and slippage cost, where is the market in its cycle, and has the strategy held up historically. Each question links to a tool that calculates the answer.

The tools calculate; they do not predict direction or guarantee outcomes. Leverage can lose your entire principal.

Common questions

How do I calculate position size?

Position size = the amount you are willing to lose ÷ the distance from entry to stop (as a percentage). For example, risking 100 USDT with a 2% stop gives about 5,000 USDT; leverage only changes the margin used.

What risk-reward ratio is reasonable?

Ignoring costs, the break-even win rate for a 1:R setup is 1 ÷ (1 + R): 50% at 1:1, about 33% at 1:2 and 25% at 1:3. Fees and slippage push the required win rate higher.
