Exchange Purchase or Wallet Swap? Compare the Complete Cost

Direct answer: define where the asset must end up, then compare the full funding-to-holding path. An exchange fee and a wallet rebate percentage cannot be ranked directly.

Use the same destination
For self-custody, the exchange path includes funding, purchase, withdrawal and arrival on-chain. A wallet path includes acquiring on-chain funds, approvals, swapping and final receipt. Compare the same asset, destination network and quote time.
Example
Assume an exchange purchase fee of 1 USDT, withdrawal charge of 4 USDT and execution loss of 0.5 USDT: total 5.5 USDT. Assume a wallet platform fee of 3 USDT, confirmed rebate of 0.9 USDT, network and approval fees of 1 USDT and execution loss of 2 USDT: total 5.1 USDT. The difference is just 0.4 USDT and a price move could reverse it.
If the wallet is not funded, include getting funds on-chain. If you intend to keep the asset on the exchange, do not invent an unnecessary withdrawal. These assumptions illustrate a method, not a platform ranking.
Conditions beyond cost
Verify network and token contract, withdrawal availability, minimum order size, wallet approvals and recovery readiness. Wallet execution introduces liquidity and contract risks; exchange holdings involve custody and account-access risks. A lower fee does not eliminate those differences.
FAQ
Does an exchange code work for a wallet?
Do not assume so. Verify each product's referral relationship and eligible fees separately. See the wallet guide below for Binance Wallet binding.
Which amount should I compare?
Use your intended order size and final tokens received. Fixed fees on small orders, price impact on larger orders and bridge delays can change the result.
