How to Read the Bitcoin Rainbow Chart: Bands, Meaning and Limits

How the log-regression rainbow works, what each band means, its track record and three common misuses

Direct answer: The Rainbow Chart fits a long-term regression to Bitcoin's price on a log scale and overlays nine colored valuation bands — blue zones have historically marked accumulation bottoms, red zones bubble tops. Check the live band: Bitcoin Rainbow Chart tool.

What the nine bands mean

Bottom to top: 🔵 fire sale → 🟦 buy → 🟢 accumulate → 🟩 still cheap → 🟡 hold → 🟠 bullish → 🟧 FOMO intensifies → 🔴 sell, seriously → 🟥 maximum bubble.

Historically, the 2015, 2018–19 and 2022 bear bottoms landed in blue/teal; the 2013, 2017 and 2021 cycle tops touched orange-red.

The math underneath

The center line is a power-law regression: fair value = 10^(5.84 × log10(days since genesis) − 17.01) — the same engine behind our Bubble Meter and Fair Value Calculator.

Three common misuses

  1. Treating bands as precise signals — it's a multi-year valuation frame, not a timing tool;
  2. Ignoring model drift — the regression has been refit several times since 2021, so old charts aren't comparable;
  3. Using it alone — cross-check with the multi-indicator Cycle Dashboard.

A heuristic model. Not financial advice.
