What Is a Cross-Chain Bridge?
Bridges move assets between different blockchains. Useful — but historically one of the most-hacked parts of crypto.
How Bridges Work
Different blockchains do not talk to each other natively. A bridge typically locks your asset on chain A and mints an equivalent "wrapped" token on chain B; to go back, it burns the chain-B token and unlocks the original on chain A. This lets you use Ethereum assets on other chains.
Why Bridges Are Risky
Bridges often lock large pools of assets in contracts, making them juicy "vault" targets — several of the largest hacks ever came from compromised bridges. Prefer well-known, audited, long-running bridges with insurance or large TVL; move in batches and never bridge your entire stack at once.
