How the Bitcoin Mayer Multiple Chart works

Shows the Bitcoin price divided by its 200-day simple moving average, computed by the site from exchange daily closes, to measure how stretched or compressed price is versus its medium-term trend.

What you enter

  • No controls; hover over or tap the charts to read values.

What it shows

  • Log-scale price chart with the 200-day SMA
  • Mayer Multiple history with shaded zones: Compressed (0.5–0.9×) and Expanded (2.4–4×)
  • Current Mayer Multiple, 200D SMA value and current price

How to use it

  1. Read the current Mayer Multiple tile.
  2. Compare price with the 200-day SMA in the top chart.
  3. Check whether the multiple is near the compressed or expanded zone.
  4. Look back in the history panel for past readings at similar levels.
  5. Cross-check with the 200-week moving average and the rainbow chart.

Formula

Mayer Multiple = price / SMA200(daily closes). The current value uses the live BTC price over the latest 200-day SMA.

Worked example

If BTC is at 90,000 USD and the 200-day SMA is 75,000 USD, Mayer Multiple = 90,000 / 75,000 = 1.20×, between the shaded zones.

How to read the result

  • Above 1 means price is above its 200-day trend; below 1 means below it.
  • Readings inside the shaded zones have historically been uncommon.
  • Watch the direction of the 200-day SMA, not just the ratio.

Limits and cautions

  • Zone thresholds are historical references, not deterministic tops or bottoms.
  • Daily history starts in August 2017 (Binance BTCUSDT), so earlier cycles are not included.
  • A lagging average can make the ratio spike during sharp moves.

Common questions

What is the Mayer Multiple?

Bitcoin's price divided by its 200-day moving average. It expresses, as a ratio, how far price sits above or below that trend.

What counts as a high Mayer Multiple?

This chart shades 2.4× and above as the expanded zone and 0.5–0.9× as compressed. These are historical reference zones, not rules.

How often does it update?

Daily closes update each day, and the current value is recalculated with the live BTC price.
